Welcome to Cowichan Bay: The Gateway to the Warmlands
Historically the "front door" to the Cowichan Valley, the Village of Cowichan Bay remains a storied gateway where the sea meets the land. For generations, the Coast Salish people have called this area home, naming it Quw’utsun’—or "the warmlands." It is a title well-earned, as our valley enjoys the mildest and most comfortable winter climate in all of Canada.

Today, Cowichan Bay is a vibrant blend of a traditional working harbour and a charming seaside escape. Visitors can explore an eclectic mix of boutique galleries, curio shops, and world-class restaurants, or settle into one of our cozy hotels and B&Bs. Whether you are kayaking through calm waters, embarking on a whale-watching expedition, or setting sail for the day, the bay offers endless ways to connect with the coast.

A Natural Sanctuary Nature lovers will find a haven at the Cowichan Bay Estuary. As a vital stop for over 200 species of migratory songbirds, waterfowl, and rare shorebirds—including the vibrant purple martin and rufous hummingbird—it is a premier destination for bird watching.

Taste of the Valley Beyond the shore, the valley’s agricultural roots run deep. The region is celebrated for its organic produce, naturally raised livestock, and a burgeoning wine scene. Spend an afternoon touring local estate wineries or savoring the "farm-to-table" flavors of the Cowichan Valley at our local restaurants.
